PASTORAL FORMATION PROGRAMME

In addition to taking required courses (in the second and third cycles) in the area of Pastoral Studies, all of which have a practical component, diocesan seminarians who are resident at the Regional Seminary are required to engage in supervised field education programmes during each year of their seminary formation. (See RF nos.94-96). Apart from ongoing individual supervision of each student’s pastoral assignment, these programmes include sessions of theological reflection (in which groups of students, led by members of the seminary staff, explore the significance of their pastoral experiences for their personal lives and growth in faith), and are normally the equivalent of two credits each semester.

Seminarians from religious communities and others who wish to pursue these programmes may also be admitted, with the approval of the seminary authorities, including the Director of Field Education.

During the long vacations (June through August each year) diocesan seminarians are normally assigned a pastoral project in their home diocese. (See RF nos.97-99). This project is organized and supervised by personnel from that diocese and a report is normally sent to the seminary.
