St. John Vianney

The Regional Seminary, St. John Vianney and the Uganda Martyrs was founded in 1943 by Most Rev. Finbar Ryan, O.P., then Archbishop of Port-of-Spain, as a diocesan seminary to prepare priests to serve in his archdiocese.  Situated on the grounds of the Benedictine Abbey of Mt. The courses offered at the Regional Seminary are also open to persons who are not preparing for ordained ministry in the Roman Catholic Church. Such persons, religious and lay, Catholic or non-Catholic may, with the approval of the seminary authorities, register either on a full-time or a part-time basis, either for a limited number of courses or for the UWI-accredited programmes.

Qualifications For Admissions

The minimum academic qualifications required for admission to programmes of study at the Regional Seminary is five CXC (General) passes (Grades I or II) at ordinary level (or their equivalent).  This is in keeping with RF no.65 which states: "Before the students embark on their specific studies for the priesthood they must have completed the schooling which is required in their own country as a necessary qualification for commencing University studies, and if possible...
